Open ended play item for long term use
Comments about Product:This is an absolutely enchanting toy. My two girls got the home, two dolls and their accessory sets for Christmas two years ago. It is not an inexpensive toy, but it has been well worth the cost as my girls have played with the set for many, many hours and continue to play with it today (they are now ages 11 and 7).
It is well made, but be careful when pulling the plastic off the treehouse when unpacking it, as we accidentally broke off one of the hammock hooks. My husband was able to repair this with some wood glue. Other than that one incident (our fault), once the set is assembled, it is well made and has withstood the test of time from three kids, a cat, and many visiting toddlers.
The accessories really make this playable; I highly encourage buyers to consider getting the whole shebang. We own all four dolls and their full equipment setups (two dolls came last year for Xmas, two the year before). My girls take turns draping the treehouse with silks, baskets, wool rope, and whatever takes their fancy at the time. They've used dried flowers, twigs, string, yarn, embroidery floss, scraps of fabric, and even silk flowers to enhance their fairy bower. The tiny baskets are put to use to carry things, to store items, or merely for decoration and even sometimes turn into hats. The silk squares can be made into dresses, blankets or hammocks. The wool roving becomes pillows, nests, cocoons, bowls, fluff, bushes or trees. Everything can be used in a multitude of ways, by multiple children. Sometimes we've had 5 children playing around the fairy house at the same time.
We own the lovely fairies sold with the house, the little pocket fairies that Magic Cabin sells, as well as some other dolls from other places that are all used interchangeably for play. Many stuffed animals (in addition to the fairy friends) are pressed into service. So too are felted toys, small knickknacks, puppets or what have you.
In the summer time, the house has moved outdoors for play on our porch. In the winter it lives in a corner of our living room. It is easy to pull apart and reassemble.
Finally, children become more imaginative when playing with this precisely because the items included are fairly general and non-specific. When the purpose of something is ambiguous, children are allowed to be more expressive with how they utilize it.
I would put this doll set on the list of our most favorite toys!
