This kit is simple, but really captured my 5 year old's imagination. The possibilities are endless as the kit involves many different options. The tracings are pretty intricate, so the child must have good fine motor skills to enjoy. Color pencils included are high quality. Just a note, the main pencil comes un-sharpened. We were traveling when we gave her this gift, so that was a bit of a challenge to overcome.

A few suggestions would be to offer tracing paper instead of vellum, and to laminate the tracing models so that they hold up to frequent use.

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter who is young for the recommended age. Because she loves to draw and loves fairies, she really took to it, and I think because it is tracing-based it helped her improve her drawing skills when drawing on her own. I have noticed though that some of her friends are not so into it, and don't have the patience to carefully trace and assemble the characters. This is probably because they are a little young still for the product; the fact that my daughter is a drawing fiend offsets that for her.

I bought this for my 6.5 year old daughter and she loves loves loves it. Her friends come over and ask if they can make a fairy. I had to go to the local craft store and buy more vellum. They had 3 packs in stock and I bought all 3 for fear we would run out. This is the best craft product I have bought in ages and I have bought many.

My 6 yr. old daughter absolutely loves this kit. It is easy to use, inspirational and is creative. She has spent hours creating little characters by herself, with friends, cousins and even her brother. My 5 1/2-year-old niece was so excited about this gift that she didn't notice the other item that was wrapped with it. She immediately sat at the dining room table and started drawing her first fairy. Inspires creativity (both visual and narrative, b/c the fairy, of course, had a story) and is very easy to use.

The only improvement that could be made to the kit is labeling the pencils. As they are now, the color pencils and watercolor ones come in unmarked packaging, and my niece wasn't sure which was which. A very minor complaint and easily rectified.
